The battle for the ballot is heating up in California.

Right now in our nation’s most populous state, most of the eggs, pork, and veal sold comes from animals cruelly confined on factory farms.

That means mother pigs trapped in spaces so small, they can’t even stand up or turn around. That means baby cows isolated in tiny crates with no room to roam.

But animal advocates have a chance to make these cruel practices a thing of the past in California.

Compassion in World Farming is part of a growing coalition to get a historic measure on the 2018 ballot in CA…a measure that would be some of the strongest animal protection legislation on the books. It would ban the sale—that’s right, the sale—of products from animals confined in cruel cages and crates. We did it in Massachusetts in 2016, and we can do it again.

The state of California represents the sixth largest economy in the world, which means that a law of this magnitude would change millions of lives for the better.

Even though our efforts have barely begun, we already have an uphill battle ahead of us. The powerful egg, pork, and veal industries are lobbying hard in California to make sure this measure doesn’t even make it to the ballot. Our campaign is going to need all hands on deck to win this fight.

That’s where you come in.

Our coalition has to collect 600,000 in-person signatures by April 20th, 2018 to make sure that animal protection gets on the ballot and Californians have a chance to make their voices heard. Dedicated volunteers are already on the ground trying to make this happen—but they need backup.
