Compassion in World Farming has commissioned this report to objectively explain and discuss current knowledge regarding welfare implications for animals, in particular dams and their offspring during cloning and genetic modification. Farm animals are sentient beings with the ability to express positive and negative emotions, such as happiness and fear. The impact on welfare of any emerging technology must therefore be considered. This report summarizes recent experiments and current techniques, and addresses welfare issues such as survival rates and any associated abnormalities produced by cloning and genetic modification.
